One of the biggest benefits of working in CGI/3D is the ability to get a huge ‘Return On Your Investment’ and that’s why we are often found championing the use of this particular medium for creative content. However, from experience, we have found that many of our clients who are new to working in this medium were not aware of the benefits it offers and how they could further leverage the CGI/3D models that they have commissioned. This led them to having the impression that CGI imaging and animation were out of reach on their projects because of the expense and the time they took to create, where in fact, it could be quite the opposite.
Over the last decade the use of CGI/3D in digital content creation has been instrumental in reshaping the visual landscape that we are surrounded by. Whether it’s the images we see in magazines or the programs we watch on TV, the ability to create photoreal creations that would normally be impossible to make in real life, or too costly, is now completely achievable for all client’s projects rather than just ‘a nice to have’ thing for clients with big budgets.
This has never been more relevant to brands and agencies who are tasked with having to produce new innovative marketing materials that need to work a LOT harder, be more engaging and omnipresent over more media channels. With digital campaigns often requiring 10x more volume of content to appeal to an ever expanding and varied audiences whilst being at the mercy of third-party platforms’ viewer algorithms.
We view the method of CGI/3D digital content creation as ‘Imagineering’, where we are sculpting in virtual workspaces that enable us to create digital assets from these spaces.
These digital assets then enable you to work efficiently across not only image-based mediums such as POS and billboards, but can also be animated efficiently for use on social platforms, as well as being used in innovative new interactive medias like AR/VR to connect your audiences in ways you would never have been able to do before.
Most importantly, these CGI/3D assets can be modified quickly, easily and cost effectively, to allow you to design campaigns with multiple deployments, from one single CGI/3D scene which might be in the form of high-quality imagery, to 10” Instagram product videos, moving DOOH billboards, 360 product turn tables for websites, or even entry level AR through Facebook and Instagram, all of which are becoming the normal expectation of a modern day digital campaign, for wider customer interaction.
But, if this all sounds a bit confusing, then we would love to help demystify this for you. We can work with you to help plan out your campaign and make suggestions on platforms that you can add to your original idea to give you even more leverage and extend the reach of your campaign.
Even if it’s as simple as this example, where we modified an existing CGI/3D scene to create two images—one for Christmas and a second for New Year’s Eve—giving you twice the opportunity to reach your audience from one single asset.
Extend the use of your CGI/3D scene by animating part of the concept to tell a simple story. This can give you a perfect 10 second Instagram video using the same model with minor tweaks to enable animation.
Take the CGI/3D model into Facebook/Instagram’s Spark AR to create entertaining interactive products your followers can share, generating high engagement with your brand. Example: Cocio—extending traditional CG models into Spark AR.
The combinations of content creation and opportunities are endless. Our blog “How Social Media is affecting the way you make your marketing material” explores how social platforms are reshaping production—and why reusable, quickly adaptable content is now key to a successful digital campaign.
Here at Imaginar, we’ve partnered with some of the world’s biggest brands to help them leverage CGI/3D asset creation—building on 14+ years of working with cutting-edge technology.
